Det här är frågan som dokumentärfilmaren och berättaren Gustav Hillbom ställer sig när han återvänder till sin hemstad Malmberget för att dokumentera samhällets långsamma försvinnande. Vi får följa de två unga musikerna Martin och Peder vars musik besjunger samhällets försvinnande och ofrånkomliga förändring. Samtidigt vänder Gustav kameran mot sina egna känslor av förlust.
